Mimi Diep - Reconcile Solitude

Sketches of what the final suit should look like
It will be entirely made out of fabric

In Progress Images
Left: Front View ; Right: Back View
These are images of the fabric base of the full body suit. It is on a rough mannequin made to hold the suit up, not for proper display of form. It will look less like a giant cylinder when worn.
(I would wear it and show images of the form more properly, but the cut out screen for the eyes is drying with a acetone-based glue that is not safe to breathe in.)

Title: Reconcile Solitude
(Title is likely to change. I don't know if this title is grammatically correct.)

For this wanderlust assignment I will be creating a life size fabric suit that I will wear as I walk slowly and passively down the beach. This performance will take place on the beach I grew up next to but scarcely went to. It is a visual expression of my experiences and memories of that beach, as a place of grief and lost. Grieving the negative memories of my family that occurred in public places where one would expect joy and bonding.
The performance will be done in-front of people attending the beach, either with families or themselves. It is intended to remind the beach-goers of a difference in the experiences someone may have in places that are typically associated with joy and peace.
